Discovery 2.0 – The New Frontiers Program

Original Broadcast Date: July 23, 2014

Discovery is an important but often neglected part of the major gift prospect development cycle.  OSUF created a collaborative and successful Discovery Program including prospect identification and research verification by research staff, and major gift qualification by major gift officers, either through telephone or face-to-face contact.  Mark Koenig, Senior Director for Advancement Services at the OSU Foundation, became an integral part of the team responsible for building the Discovery Program.

In this webinar Mark will cover how to build a Discovery Program for your institution including:

  • describing initial considerations and defining your program,
  • developing composition and baselines,
  • identifying the roles each department plays and how to best deploy them,
  • summarizing techniques and tips for managing the data needed and received, and
  • ultimately projecting return on investment that discovering new opportunities for your institution can create.

This material will be appropriate for Advancement Services, Research, Prospect Management, and Development staff at nonprofits of all types.  Attendees will come away with knowledge of the groundwork needed for preparing, launching and orchestrating their own Discovery Program.

  • Mark Koenig, Senior Director for Advancement Services, Oregon State University Foundation
